Welcome to Newsletter 24
By Mary Singleton, Co-cordinator

The WAGE Governing Council had a very productive retreat in September, and we all felt energized by the sustained interest of several founding members who joined us for the day. WAGE still has an important role to fill in the struggle for equal opportunity for minorities and women in academe. Of course, the Governing Council can't do this without your help - the contributions of our members are always needed and appreciated.

Perhaps after reading this Newsletter you will feel inspired to let us hear from you about a case that is relevant to our mission or should be reported in the next Newsletter. That would be appreciated. We count on our members to get out the message that WAGE is here to help when gender equity issues arise.

If you would like to sponsor a WAGE meeting you can contact me or other Governing Council members to help with arrangements. (My contact information is maryhas@juno.com or 505 689-1099.) A meeting on campus is one of the best ways to let faculty, students, and staff know about the resources that WAGE can provide when they are needed. You are part of the WAGE network and we would like to work with you wherever you are. The next WAGE general meeting will be held in San Diego on November 11 2006. Pat Washington is the organizer of this event, and it will be worth the trip. Hope you can be there.

We sent out an extra letter in February to remind our members that WAGE is supported by members' dues. If you have not responded, please, do so now. It is important that we hear from our membership, because that is ultimately what supports our programs and keeps the Governing Council engaged in the work of WAGE.

So here are three possibilities for action on your part: Send us news, sponsor a WAGE information meeting on campus, and send your dues for 2006 if you have not done so already. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again to Cathy Kessel for editing this Newsletter and to other members who have contributed articles. We truly appreciate your efforts.
